Delayed

Delays

Delays are needed in our lives. This is not entirely a train smash, or the end of the world. One does need to be delayed in order to reaffirm their route, this brings forth focus and it reassures you that you are on the right the path.

You are off to an interview, everything is well planned, outfit- perfectly prepared the night before, you do a company background check, you research the position at hand. You familiarise yourself with the transport system on how to get there, rehearse for the interview, you are on top of your game. In the morning, you leave the house an hour early allowing yourself enough time to breathe, but on the road, you are delayed. The taxi’s become a nightmare, or not even that drastic but simply everything just moves slow. You become late for the interview, either way you’re still interviewed, the interviewer is polite and pleased to meet you. Being late has devastated you, to a point that you thought it is the end of the world, you get home cry about it because all seem to have gone down south.

In the morning you off to work, usual route, suddenly a flat tyre. This can deteriorate your day, this changes the mood of your entire morning because you are now thinking of being late, your boss is a nightmare, he is forever freaking out about everything and you being late isn’t a good thing at this point.

At school, you repeat a level; you fail one of your majors. This results to you doubting your abilities and interests. You even think of changing courses because this is not working for you at that point. You miss the opportunity of a perfect score, being the youngest in your class, and first to graduate amongst your childhood peers.

All of the delays we face are necessary because they keep us grounded and having to revaluate ourselves and focus on our ultimate goal. Some delays are God trying to tell us slow down my child, and breathe because life is not a race. Some are God’s way of protecting us from the danger that is set on our road.  When God sets a certain diversion on our road, this is to shows us that He is always there. A flat tire might be a hindrance from an accident up the road, being late for an interview can be that the job is not for you and there are greater things waiting for you. You would have settled for that job because that is what is offered at that, time and you are not looking at the future position set for you. Repeating a grade is to pick you up and groom you to a matured state to be able to handle the challenges in the next level. Moses and the Israelites did not reach the promise land in a day, but they had to go through some diversions within their journey, some gave up and cursed Moses but those who were focused and determined believed in the God that had sent Moses to move them out of Egypt, the land of slavery.

Perseverance, persistence and focus are some of the factors to keep positive and not weary along the way.

Exodus 13: 17; “And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:"

Matthew 11:28-30; “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
